WATCH + DISCOVER : Wallander

WALLANDER is a BBC TV Series adapted from the international bestselling books "Kurt Wallander" by Henning Mankell. It stars Kenneth Branagh as the eponymous police inspector in Ystad, Sweden. Emmy award-winning director Philip Martin worked with cinematographer Anthony Don Mantle, to create a style that is visually stunning and moody at times. Coupled with the brilliant writing, it leaves one wanting more. Hopefully the BBC will produce more than the 3 films it has already won Baftas for, including Branagh's Best Actor win.

Of Wallander, Branagh describes him as "an existensialist who is questioning what life is about and why he does what he does every day, and for whom acts of violence never become normal. There's a level of empathy with the victims of crime that's almost impossible to contain, and one of the prices he pays for that sort of empathy is a personal life that's a kind of wasteland."

JSYK BBC NEWS reports :
BBC drama Wallander won four awards at the Bafta craft awards - a celebration of the work that goes on behind the scenes in television. The three-part series, starring Kenneth Branagh as a Swedish detective, won in categories including original music and production design. Wallander, which took best drama at the TV Baftas, also won in the photography and lighting section as well as the sound for a fiction/entertainment programme category. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8055077.stm
